I'm coping with The Horrors by reading a lot. Like normally I finish around 10 books a year because I'm a slow reader and also work four jobs. This year so far I've finished nine books! (I also blazed through five books in six weeks post-election last year.) I might write some actual essays on those books, especially the Tal Bauer queer political thrillers I've read, but for now...
Currently Reading
- How to Say I Do by Tal Bauer -- a cute m/m romance about a Texas cowboy and a Manhattan publicist who have a hilarious meet cute at DFW airport on their way to Cancun for totally different trips and proceed to fall in love. It's light and breezy compared to the other Tal Bauer novels I've read, but it's still his signature high drama and FEELINGS.
- Petty Treasons by Victoria Goddard -- a companion novella to her holy shit omg so good but so fucking long novel The Hands of the Emperor, a look at early days of Cliopher working as the Emperor's secretary and how it evolves into a deep friendship. I'll probably write more about Hands because it completely rearranged my heart and made me want to live in this world forever.
- Dayspring by Anthony Oliveira -- I'm still slowly working my way through this one more than a year after I started it. The beautiful verse and prose and how Oliveira merges the sacred and profane in his writing keep me coming back, but there are aspects of this book that remain inaccessible to me because I wasn't raised Catholic.
